Dear Colleagues and Friends of ISRM,
It is with immense pleasure and pride that I extend a warm welcome to all participants of International Society of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) International Symposium 2024 & 13th Asian Rock Mechanics Symposium (ARMS 13) to be held on the theme of Advances in Rock Mechanics Infrastructure Development.
This prestigious event shall consists of Workshops, Short Courses and 03 days Symposium to be held from shall 22nd September 2024 to 27th September 2024 in Eros Hotel, New Delhi and will bring together experts and stakeholders from over 60 member countries to deliberate and exchange invaluable experiences on various topics of Rock Engineering.
The Indian Chapter of ISRM and the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) have worked tirelessly to make this symposium a significant platform for addressing key issues in rock engineering, Rock Mass Classification Techniques, Tunnelling Technology, Rock Grouting, Rock Mechanics in Tunnelling Techniques, Rockfall Protection and Landslide Stabilization Solutions Integrated with IOT Technology and much more. Their dedication and contribution are commendable, and I extend my deepest appreciation to both organizations for their steady efforts. The themes of this symposium will certainly improve the standards of professional practice among rock engineers in order to make civil, mining and petroleum engineering works safer, more economic and less disruptive to the environment.
The outcomes of our discussions here will undoubtedly advance the sector, promoting sustainable development and technological innovation in Rock Engineering and Rock Mechanics. The theme of this symposium, “Advances in Rock Mechanics - Infrastructure Development,” holds significant importance for India’s infrastructure. There are about 200 hydroelectric power plants in the country, with a total generation capacity of about 47 GW. Looking at the Country’s potential in development of hydropower sector, rock engineering shall play a crucial role in the overall advancement of the sector.
Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering shall also play a crucial role in the hydro power capacity addition of the power sector as around 100GW still needs to be harnessed. Further looking at the focus of the Government of India to device policy for the pumped hydro storage to utilize the potential of storage, advancement in Rock Engineering Technologies shall be very impactful. This gathering is not just an opportunity to share knowledge but also to build lasting collaborations that will benefit us all. As we evolve with modern technology and adapt to new challenges, the insights gained from this symposium will be instrumental in shaping the future of rock engineering and rock mechanics. I invite all concerned professionals, researchers, and policymakers to join this significant event of global repute.
Looking forward to your active participation and fruitful deliberations.

Warm regards,
